Occupational Information

The duties and responsibilities of a Nursing Assistant include caring for the physical and psychosocial needs of the hospitalized patient and being part of the professional care team that carries out the physician’s orders.  Job placement opportunities range from working in a hospital setting to working in the Extended Care or Skilled Nursing Facility.


Program Objectives

Upon completion of this program students have the technical and clinical skills to apply, sit and pass the State of Florida Board of Nursing Certification exam to qualify as a Certified Nursing Assistant and seek employment. Upon successful completion of the program and meeting all course requirements and financial obligations the student will be issued a diploma.

Program Description

The Nursing Assistant program includes instructor-led classroom, practical hands-on lab training, and clinical experience in a long term care facility. The Nursing Assistant program includes 94 clock hours of Theory, 40 clock hours of Externship and 31 clock hours of LAB. Students must successfully complete daily tests and a final exam.


·   Be at least 17 years and 11 months of age.

·   Have signed permission from a parent or guardian if less than 18 years old.

·   Have a high school diploma, GED, or successfully pass the School created Basic Skills Test with a minimum verbal score of 70% and minimum math score of 70% according to program enrolled.

·   Have a personal interview.

·   Submit a signed enrollment agreement.

·   Submit a medical report attesting to good health.

Clinical Practice

A Criminal Background Check is required in order complete the Externship clock hours or Clinical requirements in some home health care facilities.

Student must apply, take and pass the State of Florida Board of Nursing Certification Exam to be state certified.   The Florida Board of Nursing also requires a criminal background for all applicants seeking licensure.  Individuals with criminal background checks may not be eligible for licensure or employment. State of Florida licensure is required prior to obtaining employment in this field. Information regarding the Florida State Nursing Assistant exam is available through the Internet.
